Discover Your Inner Power: Creating Success on Purpose
Have you ever felt that you needed a little extra courage to pursue your dreams?
I know the feeling.
When I ran my first workshop at the 2023 #WomenEd's Unconference, I was confronted with challenges like train strikes that threatened to derail my plans. I could have easily turned back, but I decided to push through the obstacles and carry on. That's when I realised I was #10%braver.
In this blog post, I'll share the details of my workshop: How to create success on purpose.
1) Be Present in the Now
To create success on purpose, we must start by being fully present in our lives. This entails a conscious assessment of various aspects of our existence, including career, relationships, family, finances, legacy, friendships, health, and spirituality.
Ask yourself:
- What do you notice about your energy distribution?
- Which areas consume most of your energy, and which ones contribute positively and negatively?
- How do these allocations make you feel?
Wisdom:
At different phases of your life, different domains may require varying levels of energy. This is okay as long as it aligns with what you truly desire. Remember, seeking approval from others can be a roadblock to success. Overcoming fear and self-doubt is essential. Be your own biggest cheerleader and ask yourself, "If a friend faced a similar situation, what advice would you offer? What might you regret not doing due to fear?"
2) Conquer Fear and Self-Doubt: Become Your Own Best Advocate
Fear and self-doubt are common obstacles on the path to purposeful success. The key is to overcome these internal barriers and become your most dedicated supporter.
Key Questions:
- If a cherished friend were facing the challenges you are, what guidance would you extend to them?
- Consider the opportunities you might miss due to the constraints of fear and self-doubt.
Wisdom:
In your quest for a purposeful life, it's paramount to be open to calculated risks. While self-doubt is a natural companion on the journey of growth, it should never stand in your way. To surmount this, reframe your thoughts and confront negative thinking patterns head-on.
3) Reframe Your Thoughts
In your pursuit of purposeful success, it is imperative to reframe your thoughts, ushering in a transformation of your mindset by taking on the challenge of negative thinking patterns.
- Am I mistaking thoughts or feelings for facts?
- Do I tend to assume the worst-case scenario?
- What evidence supports or contradicts my negative thoughts?
Wisdom:
To foster positivity and personal growth, integrate positive affirmations into your daily life. These affirmations can be as simple as, "I am worthy of success, and I trust in my ability to overcome obstacles and thrive."
4) Give Permission to Yourself to Just Be
Release the grip of self-criticism and societal pressures. It is a common human experience to feel like we're not enough. Prioritise self-care and listen to the cues your body provides. To embark on the journey of feeling "enough," offer yourself self-compassion.
Key Questions:
- What self-care do I need right now?
- How can I consistently dedicate time to myself, perhaps through journaling or nature walks?
Wisdom:
Remember, prioritising self-care is not selfish; it's a form of self-love. The feeling of being "enough" is a gradual journey of self-compassion that unfolds as we embrace the authenticity within ourselves.
5) Be Deliberate in What You Say Yes or No to
Manage your energy consciously for a more fulfilling life by determining what energises you and what drains you. Be intentional about your commitments and energy expenditure. Carefully select what to say yes or no to, striving for a harmonious balance between external obligations and personal growth.
Key Questions:
- What aspects of life energise me, and which ones drain me?
- Am I deliberate in my commitments and the expenditure of my precious energy?
Wisdom:
By mindfully choosing what to embrace and what to let go of, you take control of your life's direction. Balancing your commitments with your personal growth is key to achieving success on purpose.
In the end, my session emphasised the importance of being present in the now, embracing change, and nurturing a positive mindset.
Success on purpose is within your reach, and the journey begins with self-reflection and self-empowerment.
So, unlock your inner power and be the change you seek in your life.
My Two Key Takeaways
In moments when doubt tries to cloud the path to purposeful success, remember these two invaluable lessons:
- Embrace Imperfection
Instead of waiting for everything to be perfect, don't be afraid to do it in a slightly messy way, but most importantly, do it. The pursuit of perfection can be paralysing, but taking that first step, even if it's not flawless, is a powerful catalyst for progress. - Build a Supportive Community
Surround yourself with a community that not only encourages and uplifts you but also challenges you to grow. In this journey, communities like #WomenEd can be invaluable—places where you can find inspiration, encouragement, and the strength to become #10%braver.
As you continue your path to purposeful success, carry these takeaways with you as a reminder that you have the strength within to overcome obstacles, embrace imperfection, and flourish in the nurturing embrace of a supportive and challenging community like #WomenEd.
