We started WomenEd because women's voices on twitter were often silenced, harrassed or our views were not valued. It's one of the reasons we included a mic in our logo. So we encouraged women to tweet and to write blogs to tell our stories and share our lived experience. 

One of the reasons we wrote 10%braver: Inspiring Women to Lead Education was to ensure the voices of our community reached women who are not on twitter. And over 30 voices are included in Being 10% Braver which, joyously, is published this December - you can pre-order and it's a great Christmas present! And we are delighted to share more opportunities for our community to write and to be heard.

Martes, 9.30 de la noche, cuando ya el día parece llegar a su fin. Me siento en mi escritorio, delante del papel y el lápiz y me pregunto: ¿qué me convirtió en un #HeforShe? ¿Qué me hace defender y reivindicar la igualdad entre géneros?

Cualquiera que haya sentido en su vida cualquier tipo de discriminación, ya sea por su género, su procedencia o sus preferencias de vida, sabe perfectamente cómo se siente una persona a la que le cierran puertas o valoran sus iniciativas desde una perspectiva de género.

Mis padres siempre me recuerdan que ya de muy pequeña usaba la tapa de un cajón en nuestra cocina para jugar a ser profesora.

Parece ser que ya en aquella época me encantaba usar mi tiza para escribir en la pizarra: “Haced exactamente lo que yo haga”. Éste era el lema de cada una de mis clases. Cuando hablaba con mis alumnos imaginarios siempre les decía: “Si yo no hago lo que a vosotros os pido, sed valientes y desafiarme”.

There are many obstacles to creativity. I used to say to myself that I didn't have the time, or the resources nor the inspiration. Trawling through countless websites and magazines would leave me completely overwhelmed, that I didn't even know where to start—so I didn't! I wonder if my initial lack of creativity wasn't based on the obstacles that I came up with, but with the thought of permission. The creative pursuits I wished to have, unless validated, seemed to be a huge waste of time. I thought that unless I was creating an example for the children to use in my classroom, it was a pointless exercise. And yet, I was encouraging others to be creative, but not giving myself the permission to do the same.

Hay muchos obstáculos para la creatividad. Antes pensaba que no tenía tiempo, ni tenía las cosas, ni la inspiración. Busqué por internet y en las revistas y me dejo tan completamente abrumada que no sabía cómo empezar – y por eso, no empecé. Reflexioné sobre si mi falta inicial de creatividad no se basaba en los obstáculos que se me  ocurrieron, y por eso no le hice. Las actividades creativas que deseaba tener, a menos que se reconocieran, parecían ser una enorme pérdida de tiempo. Pensé que a menos que estuviera creando un ejemplo para que los niños lo usaran en mi clase, era un ejercicio inútil.
